Week of 2/17-2/21

Welcome to a new week, I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend! Here are our plans for the three days this week...

Math: Homework: Lesson 73-74 (side B), test next week
Math concepts students are currently working on:
3rd: temperature, line segments and perimeter, word/story problems, time, lines of symmetry, fractions
4th: place value/value, multiple number/multiple digit multiplication, measurements of unit, line segments and angles, multiplication with arrays, and division  
Students will also be working on a new program to go along with math and reading called Freckle Math. This will include fact, practice and adaptive tests/activities.

Language Arts: Homework: whatever is not finished in class. NO Spelling words/test this week - we will continue next week with spelling words.
Reading: This week students will be working on an activity: "synonym rolls" from the vocabulary in their reading from last week. Students are still expected to be working on A.R. reading and quizzes daily. 
Spelling Connections: Students are working through unit 6-7
*Spelling will also consist of a review worksheet this week and next as we have short weeks.
Freckle ELA will also be an option to work on during Language Arts. This will include a word study, adaptive tests and reading practice and quizzes. 
Handwriting: Cursive practice 3rd grade:1, 4th grade:10
*4th grade will be writing everything in cursive now!
Writing: This week students will be working on writing thank you letters for auction donations. 

Science/S.S.:  This week we will start learning about types of Energy.
Science Fair will take place February 27th in the afternoon. 
Science fair packets were sent home to help your student record and draft their experiment. Please ask to look at this and ask your child about their topic. This is a student led project but they may need parent assistance. Topics should already be chosen and turned into me. 
*Students may bring in their Science Fair projects as they finish them. We will share them in class prior to the Fair. 
In Social Studies we will be learning about the first people and different tribes of Oregon. We will also continue our Second Steps, social learning, lessons. We continue rotating our safety units with our feelings/empathy units.

Writing: This week students will be working on writing cards for students receiving their First Reconciliation, as well as finishing our heart writing and sharing those. We will also work on a new daily language packet(#3) to practice editing and grammar skills.

Week of 2/3-2/7

Welcome to a new week. Here are our plans for this week. 

Math: Homework: Lesson 66-69 (side B)

4th: place value/value, multiple number/multiple digit multiplication, measurements of unit, addition on money, and multiplication with arrays.  
Students will also be  working on a new program to go along with math and reading called Freckle Math. This will include fact, practice and adaptive tests/activities.

Language Arts: Homework: whatever is not finished in class. NO Spelling words/test this week - we will continue next week with spelling words.

Science/S.S.:  We did our experiment last week with volcanoes and will finish our learning of them. We will then move onto studying Energy.
Science Fair will take place February 27th in the afternoon. 
Science fair packets were sent home to help your student record and draft their experiment. Please ask to look at this and ask your child about their topic. This is a student led project but they may need parent assistance. Topics should already be chosen and turned into me. 
We will also continue our Second Steps, social learning, lessons. We continue rotating our safety units with our feelings/empathy units. This week we will discuss finding common ground and accepting differences. 

***Reminders:
*The 5th/6th class will be coming to our classroom this Thursday to sell candy grams for $0.25/each. If you child is interested in purchasing some, please send a list with each name/person they would like to give one to (this makes the process easier).

Week of 1/27-1/31

Welcome to a new week. Here are our plans for this week. 

Math: Homework: Lesson 65 (side B), Math Test Tuesday
Math concepts students are currently working on:
3rd: temperature, line segments and perimeter, word/story problems, time, lines of symmetry, pictographs, fractions
4th: place value/value, multiple number/multiple digit multiplication, measurements of unit, addition on money, and multiplication with arrays.  
Students will also be  working on a new program to go along with math and reading called Freckle Math. This will include fact, practice and adaptive tests/activities.

Science Fair packets were sent home last week, please ask to look at this and ask your child about their topic. Topics should already be chosen, so students have enough time to work on their project. 
We will also continue our Second Steps, social learning, lessons. This week we start rotating our safety units with our feelings/empathy units.

4th: place value/value, multiple number/multiple digit multiplication, measurements of unit, addition on money, and multiplication with arrays.  
Students will also be  working on a new program to go along with math and reading called Freckle Math. This will include fact, practice and adaptive tests/activities.

Language Arts: Homework: whatever is not finished in class. NO Spelling words/test this week
Reading: This week I will be giving the students the monthly QRI assessment in class, during this time they will work on reading for A.R. points. Next week we will be back into reading from our textbooks. 

Spelling Connections: Students are working through unit 5-6
Freckle ELA will also be an option to work on during Language Arts. This will include a word study, adaptive tests and reading practice and quizzes. 
Handwriting: Cursive practice 3rd grade:39/40, 4th grade:6 
*4th grade will be writing everything in cursive now!
Writing: This week students will be free-writing, continuing work/learning of parts of speech, a reading comprehension worksheet, we will also be writing about our grandparents/grandma/grandpa/special guest in anticipation for grandparents day next week. 

Science/S.S.:  We will continue our learning of volcanoes and will end the unit with an experiment. 
Science Fair packets were sent home last week, please ask to look at this and ask your child about their topic. Topics should already be chosen, so students have enough time to work on their project.

*This week we will be taking a walking field trip over to Ernst Irrigation. This will be for a "reunification point"(safe meeting place) in case of a building evacuation is needed for emergency purposes(ex. earthquake, fire, etc).

Week of 1/13-1/17

Welcome to a new week. Here is what we have going on...

Math: Homework: Lesson 58-60 (side B), STAR Math Wednesday, Math test Friday
Math concepts students are currently working on:
3rd: temperature, line segments and perimeter, word/story problems, time, lines of symmetry, and pictographs
4th: place value/value, multiple number/multiple digit multiplication, measurements of unit, lines of symmetry, addition on money, and Venn diagram chart. 
Students will also be  working on a new program to go along with math and reading called Freckle Math. This will include fact, practice and adaptive tests/activities.

Language Arts: Homework: whatever is not finished in class. Spelling Test Friday
Reading: This week I will be giving the students the monthly QRI assessment in class, during this time they will work on reading for A.R. points. Next week we will be back into reading from our textbooks. 

Spelling Connections: Students are working through unit 5-6
Freckle ELA will also be an option to work on during Language Arts. This will include a word study, adaptive tests and reading practice and quizzes. 
Handwriting: Cursive practice 3rd grade:37/38, 4th grade:5, 
*4th grade will be writing everything in cursive now!
Writing: This week students will be free-writing, continuing work/learning of parts of speech, Madlibs, editing/grammar packet, and a writing activity on MLK Jr. 

Science/S.S.:  We will continue our learning of volcanoes and will end the unit with an experiment. Students will be given more time in class to research a topic for the Science Fair. Packets were sent home last week, please ask to look at this and ask your child about their topic. Topics should be chosen by the end of the week. 
We will also continue our Second Steps, social learning, lessons. This week we will focus on safety.
